JW Global Signs Landmark MoU to Advance SEED Initiative in Maharashtra

JW Global has signed a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Government of Maharashtra, marking a major step forward in the development of our SEED (Sustainable Eco-Enterprise District) initiative.

The agreement was signed in Mumbai in the presence of Minister Radhakrishna Vikhe Patil and Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on 16 th April 2026. Under the MoU, JW Global and the SEED Consortium will lead investments of approximately ₹1.65 lakh crore (c. USD 19–20 billion), with the potential to generate 2,800 permanent employment opportunities.

This positions the initiative as one of the most significant integrated developments in India’s emerging clean energy and digital economy landscape.
Present at the signing were JW Founder and Chairman Jaydeep Wankhede, Principal Secretary of Industries, Investment & Services Dr. P. Anbalagan, JW CEO Christopher Renehan and other dignitaries from JW and consortium partners.

A Future-Ready Ecosystem
At the heart of our SEED initiative is the creation of a fully integrated ecosystem that brings together power, data, and infrastructure. The programme combines multiple large-scale projects designed to support India’s next phase of growth, particularly in artificial intelligence, sustainable energy, and advanced industry.

The anchor component will be a 1.4GW hyperscale data centre and sustainable AI campus, designed to support high-performance computing and digital services at scale.

Proposed investment for this centre is approximately ₹1,13,907 crore ($13.7 billion) with direct employment of up to 1,000 permanent jobs.

This data centre will be powered by a 2 GW floating solar project, supplied by SANY Group, at the Ujani Dam in Solapur. This solar installation will be integrated with a 1,000 MW battery energy storage system, which will enhance grid stability while expanding renewable energy capacity.

Proposed investment here is approximately ₹14,976 Crore ($1.8 billion) with up to 500 direct employment opportunities.

The initiative also includes a green hydrogen facility, producing 6900 MT/yr leveraging Haffner SYNOCA Biomass Gasification) & Bio-SAF, at Ujani Dam, Solapur.

The proposed Investment for this facility is ₹3071 Crore ($370 million), with direct employment opportunities of 450-1000 permanent jobs.

Last but not least, the SEED proposes the installation of a Small Module Reactor, the first of its kind to be used in India. To be supplied by South Korea, the KAERI SMART Small Modular Reactor comprises 440 MW Twin Units and will provide 24/7 carbon-free captive power at Ujani Dam.

The proposed Investment is ₹33,200 Crore ($4 billion) and operating the reactor will provide 300 permanent jobs.

Together, these projects are expected to deliver significant economic impact, creating thousands of jobs during both construction and operational phases, while strengthening Maharashtra’s position as a leading destination for global investment.

The partnership reflects a shared vision between JW Global and the Government of Maharashtra to build resilient, future-ready ecosystems that support long-term economic growth and innovation.

As the SEED Initiative moves forward, it is expected to serve as a model for integrated, sustainable development—demonstrating how large-scale projects can drive both economic progress and environmental responsibility in equal measure.
